After a tiring day, with makeup on, the last thing I want is a complicated skincare routine. All I need is a micellar water that removes my makeup fast and without any hassle.

There are many micellar water available in the market, among all the options available, Garnier Micellar Water remains one of the most popular choices worldwide. But with multiple variants on the market, which one actually works best for oily skin?

To find out, I tested 3 of the most commonly used Garnier Micellar Water for oily skin. In this review, I’ll break down how each one performed, what I liked, what didn’t work, and which one ultimately gave me the best results.

I Tested 3 Garnier Micellar Water for Oily Skin

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water (Pink Cap)

I’ve found that Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water works really well for removing my everyday, light makeup. Since I usually wear minimal makeup, this takes it all off with almost no effort. I especially appreciate that it’s completely fragrance-free—strong scents in skincare give me headaches, so this is a huge plus for me. It leaves no residue at all, and my skin feels clean after using it.

The formula itself is totally colorless and as runny as water, which makes it feel really lightweight on the skin. It does a great job at removing non-waterproof makeup, and I don’t mind going over my face two or three times since it’s so gentle and doesn’t irritates my skin. Even after daily use, it hasn’t caused any redness or discomfort. It’s just a simple, effective, reliable micellar water that does exactly what I need.

Garnier Oil-infused Micellar Cleansing Water (White Cap)

Garnier Oil-Infused Micellar Water while it’s effective at removing waterproof makeup. Here are some things I’ve noticed from using it regularly. For low coverage makeup, I ususally need 1-2 swipes and everything comes off pretty easily. With medium-heavy makeup, it takes about 3-4 passes to get everything off.

When it comes to waterproof mascara, I honestly sturggled. Even after going over it twice, there was still some residue left behind, so it wasn’t as effortless in that area.

One thing I can’t ignore is the feel it leaves on my skin afterward. Because it’s oil-infused, there’s a slightly oily film left behind—especially noticeable on my already oily skin. It’s enough that I feel like I have to cleanse my face afterward. So if you’re hoping to use this as a no-rinse makeup remover and you also have oily skin, you need to cleanse your face.

Garnier Vitamin C Micellar Cleansing Water (Yellow Cap)

Garnier Vitamin C Micellar Cleansing Water does a nice job at removing everyday dirt and light makeup. I like that it’s fragrance-free, doesn’t leave any residue, and hasn’t caused any irriation on my skin. It also works well as a quick cleanse after being outside—great for removing dust and pollution from the skin. But, it doesn’t remove waterproof makeup effectively.

Also, I didn’t notice any real difference between this micellar water and the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water (pink cap) other than the addition of “Vitamin C” claim which didn’t do anything for my face. It felt exactly like the classic version, just with a different label.

How Micellar Water Works?

According to WebMD, Micellar water though looks like water has tiny cleansing molecules called micelles. Each micelle has a outer side and an inner core. Outer side “water-loving” blends with the water solution and an “oil-loving” inner core attracts dirt, oil and makeup.

When you swipe micellar water across your skin with a cotton pad, the oil-loving side trap the dirt, oil and makeup, while the water-loving side makes it easy to wipe away without the need for harsh scrubbing. This makes it gentle, effective, and suitable even for sensitive skin.

Take some micellar water on a cotton pad or microfiber cloth and gently swipe it across your face using outward motions—avoid any harsh rubbing.

For eye makeup or heavier cosmetic areas, press and hold the pad on the skin for a few seconds to help dissolve the makeup before wiping it away. Most formulas don’t require rinsing afterward, since micellar water is designed to be a leave-on cleanser.

FAQ

Is Garnier micellar water good for oily skin?

Yes, Garnier Micellar Water is good for oily skin. It works by lifting away excess oil, dirt, sunscreen and makeup without harsh rubbing or drying out the skin. After using micellar water, it’s always best to follow with a regular cleanser to keep the pores clear.

Can Garnier micellar water clog pores?

It depends on the variant. Some versions, like the Oil-Infused Micellar Water, can leave a slight oily film on the skin. If you don’t follow up with a regular cleanser, that residue may contribute to clogged pores — especially if you’re prone to acne or oiliness. However, the standard non-oil micellar waters are lightweight and generally don’t clog pores when used properly.

Which Garnier micellar water is best, pink or yellow?

Both the Garnier Micellar Water Pink and the Yellow Vitamin C version are effective for removing everyday light makeup and surface impurities. They’re gentle, fragrance-free, and suitable for all skin types. In my experience, I didn’t notice any difference between the two other than the addition of “Vitamin C” claim which didn’t do anything for my face.
